Enrolled 23 Sept 61 at age 25, a Minister of the Gospel from Brighton Twp, Beaver Co., PA. Served as a Pastor at Concord and Unionville Methodist Episcopal Churches. Mustered in 3 Dec 61 as Captain of Co. H. Nicknamed the "Preacher Captain." Wounded in the hand 31 May 62 at the Battle of Fair Oaks, VA. Promoted 13 Nov 62 to Major. Promoted 1 July 63 to Lieut. Colonel. Requested Leave of Absence 17 June until 7 July 63 because of the sudden and dangerous illness of his sister. Returned. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC and held captive in Macon, GA until the 11th or 12th of June 64. He was then transferred to the jail yard at Charleston, SC. Paroled from Charleston 3 Aug 64. Mustered out 20 Nov 64. Married 12 or 22 July 1866 to Cynthia Darragh Adams, dau. of Dr. Milo & Cynthia B. (Darragh) Adams in Beaver, PA. Served as a Republican State Senator of the 26th District during 1867 & 1869. Moved to Alliance, OH in 1870 to work as a Lawyer. During 1871 & 1872, he was owner and editor of the Alliance Monitor. In 1872, he re-entered to the ministry of the M.E. Church, but due to poor health, that was short lived. Cynthia died 1 Oct 1879. Headstone. Taylor re-married 1 Nov 1880 to Alvina Williams. Living in DC in 1882 when their daughter Mary was born. In 1883, he re-entered the ministry but now into the Presbyterian Church, serving in the Holston Presbyery in East Tennessee. In July 62 he was transported aboard the steamship S. R. Spaulding to Bellevue Hospital, New York City from Fortress Monroe, VA. Stayed in Bellevue Hospital Hospital from 26 July until 10 Aug 62. School Teacher. Not an official member of the 101st, but served in a civilian capacity. Captured 24 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Held captive at Salisbury, NC where he died 10 July 1864.
