Enrolled 8 Nov 61 at Mansfield, Tioga Co., PA at age 18, a Miner from Blossburg, Tioga Co., PA. Mustered in 12 Nov 61. Re-enlisted 1 Jan 64 at Plymouth, NC. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth. Held captive at Andersonville, GA & Florence, SC. Francis Shaw's diary states that he took the oath of allegiance to the Confederacy 5 Nov 64 while at Florence Stockade. Died on or about 28 Feb 1865 after leaving Florence on the train enroute for parole.

VANDIVORT, Cyrus - Private, Co. H. Born in Butler Co., PA, son of John & Hetty (Graham) Vandivort. Enrolled 21 Oct 61 at age 21, a Blacksmith from Cranberry Twp, Butler Co., PA. Mustered in 29 Oct 61. Transported 7 July 62 to NY City from Harrison’s Landing, VA on the Daniel Webster. Died 7 Sept 1862 due to Typhoid Fever in Bedloes Island Hospital, New York. Originally buried 8 Sept 62 in Cypress Hills Cemetery, New York, New York. Re-buried in Plains United Presbyterian Cemetery, Cranberry Twp, Butler Co., PA.

VAN KIRK, Alexander - Private, Co. C. Born 1834 in Beaver Co., PA, son of James & Catherine (Musser) Van Kirk. Married 17 July 1856 to Elizabeth Knowles in Big Beaver Twp, Lawrence Co., PA. Enrolled 2 Nov 61 at age 26 at Wampum, PA, a Laborer from Big Beaver Twp, Lawrence Co., PA. Mustered in 20 Nov 61. Died 10 Aug 1862 of Typhoid Fever onboard the transport Kennebec enroute from Harrison's Landing to Fortress Monroe, VA on the James River. Buried at Hampton National Cemetery, VA. Section F, Grave 4913. Headstone. Elizabeth lived in Petersburg, Mahoning Co., OH after Alexander's death.

Enrolled & mustered in 30 Jan 64 at New Brighton, Beaver Co., PA, at age 19, a Laborer from Darlington, Beaver Co., PA. Married 3 Feb 64 Nancy "Jane" Van Kirk, daughter of William & Barbara A. (Musser) Van Kirk, at South Beaver Twp., Beaver Co., PA. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Held captive at Andersonville, GA & Florence, SC. Arrived at Florence 2 Oct 64. Escaped 2 Feb 65 from the Florence Stockade. Arrived within the Union lines on 21 April 65. Absent on furlough when Co. C mustered out due to Chronic Diarrhea. Absent at Camp Parole, Annapolis, MD for muster out at New Bern, NC. Married 12 Nov 1865 to Elizabeth Hand. Shoe Cutter. Died 7 Aug 1910 in Philadelphia, PA. Buried in the New Catholic of New Cathedral Cemetery.

VAUGHAN, John M. - Musician, Co. D. Born in Rainsburg, Bedford Co., PA. Enrolled 9 Oct 61 at age 18, a Shoe Maker from Bedford Co., PA. Mustered in 1 Nov 61. Discharged 28 June 62 on Surgeon's Certificate at Mt. Pleasant Hospital, Washington, DC. Married 18 Sept 1864 to Johanna, who was previously married to John Welsh who had died. Died 3 Aug 1879 due to inflammation of the brain. Buried in Philanthrope Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Died 12 July 1918 in California, Washington Co., PA.

VEON, Robert - Private, Co. E. Born 1846 in Beaver Co., PA, the son of Samuel and Mary Ann Veon of Chippewa Twp, Beaver Co., PA. Enrolled 23 Dec 63 at New Brighton, Beaver Co., PA; a 17 year old Laborer from New Brighton, PA. Mustered in 26 Dec 63. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Held captive at Andersonville GA & Florence, SC. Sustained injuries to his back and breast from being beaten by a guard at Florence. He was accused by the guard of entering one line for and collecting rations, then entering a second line for rations as well. When Robert denied it, the guard beat him and was "badly used up." Paroled 11 Dec 64 at Charleston, SC. Mustered out 25 June 65 at New Bern, NC. Member of Beaver Valley Post, No. 164, GAR, Beaver Falls, PA.
