They did not place it in the Provost Guard room for the owner to claim. When asked they first denied it. Later, it was "found," minus the money. Both were arrested and tried by VII Corp Court Martial. Found Guilty. Confined at Fort Norfolk, VA for 6 months and fined $10 each month. When released, sent to Roanoke Island, NC to join Co. A.
