ECKLES, William Campbell - Sergeant, Co. C. Born 12 June 1841 in Wampum, PA the son of Asa & Nancy Eckles. Enrolled 2 Sep 61 at age 19, a Teacher from Big Beaver Twp., Lawrence Co., PA. Mustered in 19 Oct 61 as Private. Promoted 21 Nov 61 to Corporal & 1 March 63 to Sgt.. Detailed 18 Aug 62 to April 64 as a clerk in Division HQ. Captured 20 April 64 at Plymouth, NC. Held captive at Andersonville, GA and Charleston & Florence, SC. Paroled from Florence 11 Dec 64 at Charleston, SC. Transferred to Camp Parole, Annapolis, MD. Discharged 21 March 65 to date 15 Dec 64; expiration of term. After the war, William became a member of  New Castle Post 100, GAR and was an excellent accountant in the 6th Auditor's Office of the US Treasury Depot where he served throughout the rest of his life. EVANS, Nathan Cromwell - 2nd Lieutenant, Co. D. Born 24 March 1832 near Chaneysville, Bedford Co., PA; the son of James & Rachel (Blankley) Evans. Mustered in 1 Nov 61 as Private. Promoted by election 2 Nov 61 to 2nd Lieut. Resigned 24 April 63 due to Chronic Bronchitis. "He was a faithful and good officer. His men did not want him to go." Regaining his health after his return home, he served as Captain of Co. G, PA Independent Battalion from 6 July - 8 Aug 63. In early 1864 he recruited for and was elected Captain of Co. A, 184th PA and was mustered in 13 May 64. Captured 22 June 64 at Petersburg, VA. Confined Libby Prison, Richmond, VA. Transferred 29 June 64 to Macon, GA. Then confined at Savannah, GA & Camp Asylum, Charleston, SC. Paroled 1 March 65 at N. E. Ferry, Wilmington, NC. Mustered out 14 July 65 at Washington, DC. Married Penelope Sanford Folk. He was also a teacher and Principal at Rainsburg Public Schools, and operated a successful merchandising business. He moved to Everett in 1872, and served as a State Representative in 1888 & 1889.
